This flow chart will check your current signal level and if you have very bad, or no signal at all, it will enable aeroplane mode to save your battery, if you have WiFi on then it will keep WiFi on (please allow a few seconds for WiFi to re-initialize). It will check every 5 minutes for signal levels and always reverts back to its previous state once signal is good again. Please note that root is required for this to work, as android does not natively allow apps to have access to the aeroplane mode.
