When on wifi, the GPS will be set for battery saving mode, to save battery. But when off wifi it will turn your GPS to high accuracy. That way you can find your device if it gets stolen(hopefully never). Plus it helps out if you're commuting from home to work, you won't have to change GPS manually. It updates ever 5 minutes. You can edit the time by changing the last value at the bottom of the flow.
