Alerts you to low power level (10%), and plays a tolerable reminder tone every 5 minutes until charging commences. Audible reminder can be cancelled via notification action.
Letting your battery run completely flat can not only be inconvenient but can shorten the life of the battery dramatically, so is best avoided.
